Opening Day Excitement

I woke up early this morning to make sure I could get my walk in today because this evening was dedicated to ... wait for it...
BASEBALL!!!
Yes, it is opening day! (or was by the time i'm writing this). I was so excited walking on the treadmill this morning. The news was showing clips from spring training and last season. It was wonderful thinking that baseball is back! That means that it is officially spring and summer is on its way. Though, you wouldn't know it by looking outside. I'm going to guess that there is about 4 inches of snow on the ground right now, and more on its way. Wonderful! Though nothing is going to dampen my sprit about baseball!
I'm going to need to figure out how early I need to wake up so that I can get my full walk in before I leave for work if I want to continue watching baseball at night. This morning 6a was just early enough and I was only able to fit in 2 miles. I need to do 3 soon ... But lets not think about that today. Today is BASEBALL!
Tomorrow is MORE BASEBALL! I get to go to the Twin's game too! Its just too bad that I can't wear my Neshek jersey to work... Silly client meetings. Oh well, it will hang proudly in my office until its time to leave for the game.
HAPPY OPENING DAY!

Registered for my 1st event!

I must say the people who organize the 3day walk really have their stuff together. They really motivate you too! Already - before the 6 month day hits - I have received a few emails letting me know when things are occuring. There is a "shoe fitting" and walk on April 12th! (I'll remember that because it is Mel's birthday). Basically, from what I understand, I'll be meeting other walkers while they get new shoes (I just bought a new pair of sneakers about 2 months ago) then we go for our first 3 mile walk!

What makes it even more exciting is that it is getting ready to be Spring here! Today it was almost 50 outside! It would have been a perfect day to go for a walk outside, but instead I walked on the treadmill and then walked around the Mall of America. I did just find out that walking around 1 level of the MOA is 0.57 miles. So today I think I have walked almost 5 miles.

The RonDL treadmill looked even sadder today than the other day. The electrical cord was just sort of thrown on top of the track. Sort of like it had just given up and lost all hope of ever returning to life. If it was a cartoon character your heart would just be torn out. But, maybe it has a little bit of life in it still.
Remember, there is that link on the side to support my walking effort. Make the retard treadmill happy and donate!

Hey, look! Its my 2nd post!

I really hope my gym replaces one of the treadmills soon. In an effort to save money I stopped paying for a gym membership figuring that my building has 3 treadmills and an elliptical. Since this is all I ever really use in a gym it was pointless for me to continue paying, right?

Well, I was on the treadmill walking the other day and all of a sudden a rip formed in the middle of the track. So there I was, the other 2 treadmills being used and my treadmill is the RonDL one going thrump, thrump, thrump as the rip passes over the roller. I just played it off as if nothing was wrong while everyone in the gym was looking around for someone hammering. One person even got off the bike (oh yeah there's a bike too) to look outside. I just continued reading my Glamour and walked. Thrump, thrump, thrump - for another 20 minutes.

I thought that someone would fix it without me saying anything (you know duct tape solves all problems), but nooooo I go back to the gym and my RonDL treadmill is sitting there waiting for me. So, for 40 minutes its me reading my Glamour and the thrump, thrump, thrump. After a while it almost became soothing. One of those constant noises that is easy to ignore.

Then today, my RonDL treadmill was not waiting for me. It was unplugged, with rope on it, and a sign that said "Broken." I took the treadmill next to it, read my Glamour and walked. There was no soothing thrump, thrump, thrump, nor people looking around for the hammering, just Everyone Loves Raymond and my Glamour.

Maybe next time I go to the gym there will be duct tape or a new track... or my RonDL treadmill will be gone and the gym will get one newer than a 1990 model.

New to this thing

I wanted to keep people updated on my training process for the 3day walk. If you didn't know, I'm doing the Breast Cancer 3 day in the Twin Cities in September. There is this HUGE training process that goes along with it. Most people think, "Why do you need to train? You are just walking." Well, I am "just walking," but I am "just walking" 20 miles for 3 days in a row. That is a lot for a person who only does the elliptical and yoga a few times a week.

I know some funny things are going to come about during this training process, some sad things, and maybe some motivation... so blogging seemed like the best idea. Everything helps, right?

As of right now, my team is "The Pink Sprinkles" thanks to Mel. Mel can't walk with us because of this crazy thing called med school rotations, but in her honor I let her name the team. We couldn't be the pink cupcakes because that will be the name the first time she walks. (I'm going to assume that this event is something I'll continue to do).

So, keep coming back. I'll keep you updated on my training and maybe some stuff about baseball (since the season started! "unofficially")
